BATON ROUGE, La. ( Louisiana Illuminator ) – The Southern University System intends to move on from its current leadership, according to the agenda for the next meeting of its board of supervisors.
Board members will select an interim president to take over Jan. 1 for Dennis Shields, who has held the roles of president and main campus chancellor since July 2022. The board will meet Friday in New Orleans ahead of the annual Bayou Classic football game with Grambling State.
There was no immediate word from the university on the reason for Shields’ departure.
The Southern University System includes its main campus, law school and agricultural research center in Baton Rouge and satellite four-year schools in New Orleans and Shreveport.
