A narcotics investigation in Dutchess County led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man accused of dealing large quantities of cocaine and violently resisting officers while trying to grab their weapon, authorities said.

Agents said they began investigating after receiving intelligence about drug sales inside an apartment on Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. During the probe, investigators made multiple controlled purchases that led them to identify Angel Lebron as the alleged dealer, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force said on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25, Drug Task Force agents, assisted by a Poughkeepsie K9 officer and New York State Police, took Lebron into custody on North Clinton Street. According to the task force, Lebron fought with officers and tried to grab an agent’s duty weapon before being subdued. He was also allegedly carrying a large amount of cocaine at the time, authorities added.

Soon after the arrest, SWAT teams from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and City of Poughkeepsie joined task force agents in executing a search warrant at Lebron’s residence on Main Street.

Investigators said they seized sizable quantities of cocaine, packaging materials, cash, digital scales, ammunition, a gun holster, and other items commonly used in drug distribution.

Lebron is charged with attempted criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance by weight, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and jailed without bail. Additional drug-sale charges are expected.
