Motorists are being warned of a little-known driving rule that could result in a hefty fine this Christmas . Breakdown experts The AA say that a poorly secured Christmas tree could land drivers with penalty points and fines of up to £5,000.
A new nationwide survey by The AA revealed that one in four (25%) drivers plan to transport a Christmas tree by car or van this festive season - yet 91% are unaware of the maximum £5,000 fine risk. In fact, one in seven (15%) do not understand the full breadth of consequences of doing this incorrectly which, if causing dangerous driving, can even include a driving ban.
