The transformation of Manchester Airport has been boosted by the first ever direct flights to Bangkok. Up until last night, travellers heading to the capital of Thailand were forced to head to other hubs such as Heathrow to get to the world's most visited city.

That all came to an end with the Norse Atlantic Airways' inaugural weekly service from Manchester to Bangkok on Wednesday evening. It is the first ever direct service in the airport's 88-year history.

Last year some 230,000 people from Manchester Airport ’s catchment area travelled to Thailand’s capital – either on connecting flights or from a London airport. The new service, on a Boeing 787-9, means those passengers will save time and money by going direct. It's another sign of the resurgence of Manchester Airpor
