Two National Guardsmen, who are in a critical condition after being shot in Washington DC, have been named.

Andrew Wolfe, 24, and Sarah Backstrom, 20, were victims of an "act of terror", Donald Trump has said. The alleged shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who came to the US in 2021.

Soon after Trump expressed outrage over the attack, US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced it had stopped processing all immigration cases related to Afghan immigrants "indefinitely pending further review". 17:43 Zahra Khaliq
