Niagara Catholic District School Board’s annual leadership vote wrapped up quickly this week, with Danny Di Lorenzo and Thorold/Merritton trustee Rhianon Burkholder returned as chair and vice-chair, respectively.

Both have held their board positions since 2022.

After the acclamations, Di Lorenzo addressed trustees to say it is “impossible” to speak about Catholic education without acknowledging ongoing provincewide conversations driven by Bill 33 and the role of trustees.

The Doug Ford government has fast-tracked the bill that would allow the Ministry of Education to more easily place school boards under supervision. It placed five boards under the province’s control earlier this year for what it called mismanagement.
