WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) -Black Friday shoppers arrived at Westfarms Mall Friday morning as stores opened early for the start of the holiday shopping season.
JCPenney opened at 5 a.m., followed by Macy’s at 6 a.m. Most other stores opened at 8 a.m.
The mall’s parking lots were quiet in the early morning hours but filled as shoppers arrived for deals.
JCPenney and Macy’s will remain open until 10 p.m. Friday. Nordstrom and Jordan’s Furniture are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Last year, 197 million people shopped between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
More shoppers this year are expected to buy online or through social media platforms. Many are also using “buy online, pick up in-store” options to avoid shipping delays and checkout lines.
