The Remember-A-Vet program is accepting donations for hospitalized veterans.
The program began in December 1953 when Art Middleton, a reporter and editor at the Enquirer, proposed a fundraising initiative after readers expressed interest in supporting veterans. According to a community announcement, the program runs annually from Thanksgiving through Jan. 1.
Donors can send contributions directly to the VA’s Community and Volunteer Service, which deposits all checks into the Remember-A-Vet General Post Fund. On seven holidays throughout the year, inpatient veterans receive Canteen coupon books, personal care items, snacks and other holiday celebrations. Funds also support meaningful items for veterans in various programs.
To donate, individuals can mail checks to the Battle Creek VA Med
