LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — A convicted felon prohibited from owning guns was arrested for firing a gun in his yard in Liberty Lake earlier this week.

According to the Liberty Lake Police Department, officers responded to reports of a man firing a gun in his yard near North Aladdin Road and East Mission Avenue in Liberty Lake on Tuesday, November 25.

According to the police department, arriving officers contained the area with help from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement then ordered the suspect, later identified as Mahlon Cooley, to leave his home. Cooley eventually exited the home with a pistol in his hand. Cooley was detained and later taken into custody by law enforcement.

The police department said Cooley was known to be a convicted felon and not allowed to own a gun.
