More than 100 people were safely evacuated from a disabled Amtrak train late Thursday, Nov. 28, in Marengo Township, according to a news release from Calhoun County.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Detroit-bound train near the city of Marshall shortly before 8:45 p.m. after it lost engine power and became immobile during severe winter weather conditions.
"Deputies and partner agencies worked together for several hours under challenging circumstances to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone on board," the county said. "Passengers were evacuated from the train cars and transported by Marshall Public Schools Transportation buses to the Amtrak station in downtown Battle Creek. Remaining passengers were transferred to a second Amtrak train that arrived at the scene. A
