PORTLAND, Ore. — TriMet began its first round of large-scale service cuts Sunday, with more set for March.

The agency cited rising cuts and expenses outpacing revenue amid its $30 million budget gap. November's changes include route changes and reducing how often buses arrive at certain lines during low ridership times. TriMet had solicited community feedback in the past few months.

"While we continue to streamline our spending and work to increase revenue and sustainable funding, service cuts are necessary. We appreciate the community feedback we've received to help inform the future of our transit service," the agency said in a statement.

This comes after November's layoffs , resulting in the elimination of 68 positions.
