KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a woman was found severely injured and unconscious in the Kailua-Kona area.

Early Thursday morning, officers with the Hawaii Police Department responded to the area of Keauhou Bay and found the victim. She was taken to the Kona Community Hospital and treated for serious injuries.

Police said they identified the suspect as Beka Dribo, 24, and he was located nearby and arrested for suspected abuse of a family or household member.

On Friday, Dribo was charged with assault in the first and second degree and abuse of a family or household member.

His bail was set at $25,000.
