Goffle Road fire

One of Hawthorne's oldest homes was destroyed by a fire that collapsed its roof and sent one occupant to the hospital Monday afternoon, Dec. 1, authorities said.

The call at 482 Goffle Road came in around 1 p.m. for a fire at an “old two-family home, possibly one of the oldest homes in town,” Hawthorne Police Capt. Robert King said. Firefighters arrived to heavy flames and reported a collapse in the rear of the house, the roof, he said.

The home was built in 1889, according to Zillow.

One male occupant in his 40s suffered a minor injury and was transported to a hospital for evaluation, according to King.

Multiple agencies remained at the scene as of 2:45 p.m. King said the fire had struck two, possibly three alarms. King said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
