NEW ORLEANS —
A judge has reduced bond for a man accused of helping 10 New Orleans inmates escape from the Orleans Parish jail back in May.
Sterling Williams has been charged with 10 counts of simple escape and one count of malfeasance. Advertisement
Williams is accused of shutting off water in a jail cell so the inmates could remove a toilet and escape through the wall of that cell.
According to Williams' attorney, Michael Kennedy, the judge ruled Monday that the state had "just barely" established probable cause in Williams' case.
His bond was reduced from $1.1 million to $86,000.
Kennedy said he and Williams are happy the bond was reduced but disagree with the judge finding probable cause in the case.
Williams' next court hearing is Dec. 18.
