Unai Emery has revealed that Ollie Watkins is suffering from knee pain first felt over a year ago, and his training load is now being carefully managed.

The striker has scored just one goal in 19 matches this season, and only four in his last 33 appearances for the club.

Watkins netted 19 Premier League goals in the 2023/24 campaign, followed by another 16 last season, but he missed pre-season ahead of the latter due to fitness issues after featuring for England at Euro 2024.

Jhon Durán helped ease the burden while Watkins wasn’t fully fit, scoring four goals in the first five league games and in two of the club’s first three Champions League matches.
