Aston Villa's involvement in European competition could hold the key to landing a new goalkeeper next season, should Emi Martinez leave Villa Park.
The Argentine World Cup-winner looked set to bring his Villa career to a close when transfer rumours surrounding a prospective move to Manchester United started to intensify in August.
The 33-year-old was even left out of Unai Emery's squad for the Premier League match against Crystal Palace on August 31, only to see his dreams dashed after the Red Devils signed little-known goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp instead.
Nevertheless, should Villa revisit Martinez's position at the end of the current campaign, one name is already in the running.
