PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — The Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to begin dismissal proceedings against the district's superintendent.
Todd Cummings, who started with the district in July, was placed on leave in October after the school board held a closed-door meeting to receive legal advice regarding the superintendent's employment contract. A reason for placing Cummings on leave was not publicly stated during Tuesday's meeting.
Dan Courson, an assistant superintendent for the district, was appointed in October to serve as acting superintendent for the time being.
The governing board voted to move ahead with dismissal proceedings, saying that if the statement of charges against Cummings is true, there is cause for his dismissal.
