The U.S. Border Patrol launched an immigration enforcement operation in the New Orleans region Wednesday, an operation christened “Catahoula Crunch.“
The deployment's alliterative name references a piece of Louisiana culture, though not necessarily one specific to the New Orleans area.
Catahoula Crunch was first reported as a possible name for the operation by CBS News , which said the name was a reference to the Catahoula leopard dog, Louisiana's official state dog since 1979.
Legend has it the spotted Catahoula dogs were found in the swamps of central Louisiana around Catahoula Lake between Lasalle and Rapides parishes, but whether the dogs are native to Louisiana is still unconfirmed.
