A popular shredded cheese sold under multiple store brands is being pulled from supermarket shelves after a packaging concern raised food-safety warnings across much of the country.
Great Lakes Cheese Company says a series of mozzarella and blend-style shredded cheeses may contain metal fragments linked to an upstream ingredient supplier. The company initiated a voluntary recall after determining certain batches made it into circulation before the issue was discovered.
The products span a wide range of private-label brands sold at major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Aldi, and several regional chains.
The recall covers numerous shredded cheese varieties — from mozzarella to multi-cheese blends — produced under different store names and sold in dozens of states.

No injuries have been reported, and the company says it is acting out of caution due to the possibility of metal particles originating from raw materials used in production.
Consumers who purchased the recalled items should not eat them. The company advises throwing the product away or returning it to the store for a refund. Questions can be directed to the manufacturer’s consumer hotline, listed in the FDA recall notice.
