Residents from 18 apartment suites in Richmond are displaced after fire tore through their building Tuesday night.

The fire in an apartment building near Seventh Avenue and Broadway Street in the Steveston neighbourhood was reported shortly before 8 p.m.

Firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the upper floor, according to Grant Wyenberg, assistant deputy chief of operations at Richmond Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire while others assisted with evacuating the building and searching the building.

Wyenberg said no injuries were been reported to either residents or fire personnel.

Richmond Fire-Rescue has begun the initial stages of the fire investigation. The cause and point of origin remain undetermined.
