The North Bay Police Service made an arrest in connection with a fraud targeting a local resident.
The victim was deceived into providing over $14,000 for an alleged emergency involving a close friend.
The accused, Kishaun Permanand, 26-year-old, male, of Brant, Ontario, has been charged with fraud over $5,000.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 2, the accused was arrested and charged following an investigation into a fraud.
The victim received calls from someone posing as a close friend seeking urgent financial assistance, followed by a suspect claiming to be the friend’s “lawyer,” who coordinated cash pickups from the victim’s home. During the arrest, a 2009 Mercedes was seized as part of the investigation.
