LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - In Jefferson County, the majority of five-year-old kids begin their very first day of kindergarten behind, fighting an uphill battle. That’s according to data from a local nonprofit that’s working to provide better, more affordable childcare options for parents in Louisville.

Wednesday, Thrive By 5 Louisville got a big boost in that effort as Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the launch of a new program to help early learning centers make sure that no child is left behind.

Over the next two years, 26 early learning centers will benefit from the program Quality+ Pilot, as they will be receiving help over the next two years to upgrade facilities, boost professional development and assist families who are trying to access affordable childcare.
