Whooping cranes have made their annual flight to South Texas, and tickets are now on sale for the Whooping Crane Festival scheduled for Feb. 19, 2026, through Feb. 22, 2026, in Port Aransas.
Since 1996, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge has celebrated the return of the endangered migratory birds each October, when they fly from their nesting place at Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada to their wintering habitat in Texas.
The event, now in its 29th year, typically draws as many as 2,000 people who come to see North America’s last wild flock of whooping cranes; hear from leading wildlife experts; participate in guided boat tours; embark on birding trips, nature tours and photography workshops; and experience the rich ecological heritage of the Texas coast.
