A graduate of the prestigious Teach First programme, everything pointed towards Rebecca Joynes having a rewarding and successful career in teaching. It was her ‘dream’ job, after completing a sport and exercise degree, followed by a postgraduate degree in teaching.

She lived in a Salford Quays flat, commuting to her job as a maths teacher at a Greater Manchester high school. It was during one of her maths classes that a chain of events - which ultimately led to her being jailed and potentially banned from the profession she loved - began.
