INDIANAPOLIS — A change of plea hearing took place Friday morning for an Indianapolis man facing charges for his role in the death of 5-year-old Kinsleigh Welty.
During the hearing Dec. 5, 28-year-old Ryan Smith pleaded guilty to one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. As part of the plea agreement, two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and one count of criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury would be dismissed.
The judge still has to accept the plea agreement, which will be determined at Smith's next court hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Smith is the boyfriend of Kinsleigh's mother, 30-year-old Toni McClure, who is charged with murder, criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury and battery on a person less than 14 years old.
