WESTBROOK, Maine — The man who shot and killed a Westbrook couple in front of their children in 2023 has been sentenced to two life terms in prison.
Marcel Legrange, 26, pleaded guilty earlier this year to the murders of Brittney Cockrell and Michael Hayter, who were killed in Westbrook in June 2023. Their two children witnessed the shooting.
Legrange initially entered an insanity plea, but was found competent to stand trial in September. He later withdrew the plea and admitted guilt to all charges.
On Thursday, a judge handed down two life sentences to Legrange.
“Justice was served yesterday and accounting for each life,” Brenda McKinney, Brittney Cockrell’s mother, said.
