The National Weather Service on Thursday evening issued a winter weather advisory for a large swarth of northern Blaine County, extending north from Ketchum and Sun Valley to Galena Summit.
The advisory also included the Sawtooth Valley and Stanley, in Custer County.
The advisory, prompted by heavy snowfall forecast at high elevations Friday and early Saturday, is set to expire Saturday morning at 5 a.m. The heaviest snowfall was expected between 11 a.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.
Though Wood River Valley cities were expected to receive less than 1 inch of snow, Weather Service forecasters estimated that 6-10 inches could fall at Galena Summit and 4-6 inches in Stanley. Forecasters estimated that wind gusts of up to roughly 20 miles per hour would accompany the snowfall in those areas.
