SEATTLE — Washington State Patrol is grappling with a dangerous and persistent problem of pedestrian crashes on state highways, with multiple deaths reported along Interstate 5 this year.
Pedestrian collisions on all roadways in King County increased from 24 in 2020 to 27 last year, with four of those incidents proving fatal, according to county data. The deaths have occurred throughout the I-5 corridor.
"We understand that we have a severe issue with pedestrians on our highways," said Kameron Watts of the Washington State Patrol.
