Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday introduced three private member bills in the Lok Sabha, including one seeking to criminalise marital rape.

The other two bills propose the formation of a permanent commission for the reorganisation of states and the introduction of legal safeguards to regulate working hours and protect mental health of employees.

Marriage cannot be an excuse for violence

Presenting the bill on marital rape, Tharoor asserted that marriage cannot be an excuse for violence and that a wife's consent is essential in every circumstance.
