MORGANTOWN — The 2,403 military servicemembers and civilians who lost their lives 84 years ago at Pearl Harbor were not forgotten Friday at West Virginia University, in Morgantown.
The WVU Center for Veteran, Military and Family Programs organized an event of remembrance at WVU's Downtown Campus on Friday.
Active-duty service members, WVU ROTC cadets, veterans and community members observed the anniversary of the Japanese bombing mission on the Pearl Harbor naval station in Hawaii that brought the United States into World War II with the Dec. 7, 1941, surprise attack.
The battleship USS West Virginia was badly damaged in the attack, and 106 of her sailors were killed, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency .
