STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Petrides wrestling team won its second match of the season Friday, pinning Leon Goldstein of Brooklyn, 57-18, in a PSAL 1A Brooklyn/Staten Island division encounter.
The Panthers were never in danger as they jumped out to leads of 11-0, 21-6 and 51-12.
Petrides’ lone loss on the mat occurred at 138 pounds when sophomore Dexter Lincoln was injured during his bout and was unable to continue.
Coach Dave Olah was happy with the win and the team’s 2-0 start in league play, but said there is a lot of work ahead as the team gets deeper in the schedule.
“We are still looking to increase our numbers and get the guys that were on the football team back into wrestling shape and up to speed,” Olah said. “We are going to have to rely on some veterans like Rocky (Molinare)
