New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the country to free itself from what he called a lingering “slave mentality” over the next decade, saying India’s rapid growth and shifting mindset show a decisive break from the colonial past. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, he said India’s growing confidence comes at a time when the world is grappling with uncertainty.
Modi said the “policy of Macaulay”, which he described as having planted seeds of “mental slavery”, would complete 200 years in 2035. “This means there are 10 years left. Therefore, in these very 10 years, we all must come together to free our country from the slave mentality,” he said.
