FAYETTEVILLE -- University of Arkansas Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek said he talked to as many as 30 coaches during his widespread, two-month search to find a replacement for Sam Pittman this fall.

Yurachek, speaking at a joint news conference with new Coach Ryan Silverfield on Thursday, said he intentionally kept his search tightly controlled and under wraps for a reason.

"I will tell you that my staff didn't know who I'd hired until Saturday night after the game when we got together," Yurachek said. "And that was the same way the entire search."

Yurachek said he leaned on UA Board of Trustees member Ed Fryar of Rogers and former Razorback quarterback Kevin Scanlon, now the chairman of the board for the Razorback Foundation, for the closing stretches of his search. Yurachek also co
