Police in Newark are investigating a hit-and-run incident in the South Ward that left a woman with severe injuries late Saturday night.
The crash occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Chancellor Avenue and Maple Avenue.
Officers responded after receiving reports of an injured woman in the roadway.
Upon arrival, police found the unidentified victim lying on the ground with serious injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
EMS was immediately requested on a rush, and the woman was transported to University Hospital. Her condition has not yet been released.
Preliminary information suggests the striking vehicle may have been involved in a collision with another car just before hitting the pedestrian, though police have not confirmed those details.
