A TikTok video of a woman describing a “suspicious man” inside the Hackensack Target went viral, prompting an investigation from the Hackensack Police Department.
Detectives say they found no evidence of criminal activity.
The video was posted on Nov. 19 by user @leahtarsia and had more than 397K views as of press time. In the video, the woman said a man came uncomfortably close to her while she was shopping with her baby. She said she moved through several aisles and noticed him nearby more than once. She eventually asked a security guard to escort her outside.
The TikToker also repeated several warnings often shared on social media about parking lot dangers, including eggs and zip ties placed on cars, but said she had no proof that the man intended to harm her.
Hackensack Police said they became aware of the video after it circulated online. According to the department, detectives investigated the alleged encounter and found no official reports and no evidence of criminality.
Police said emergencies should always be reported to 9-1-1, and non-emergencies should be directed to the department at 201-646-7777.
