SUPERIOR — A police officer was shot Sunday, Dec. 7, during what authorities described as “a multi-jurisdictional response to an active incident.”
Officers with the Superior Police Department, responding to a report of a domestic dispute, initiated a traffic stop near North 37th Street and Tower Avenue at around 2:44 a.m., the Wisconsin Department of Justice said in a news release Sunday afternoon. During the stop, the driver exited the vehicle and shot the officer. That officer, as well as another responding officer, returned fire, striking the suspect, the Department of Justice reported.
A third officer responded to the scene to assist the wounded officer and transported her to the Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital-Superior, according to Mayor Jim Paine in a news conference Sunday af
