FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — A bicyclist is dead in Florence County, and now state troopers are searching for the person who hit and killed them on Saturday evening.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. on Alligator Road near McElveen Lane. Authorities say both the bicyclist and an unknown vehicle were heading east on Alligator Road when the suspect vehicle struck the bicycle in the rear. Ridgeway said the bike rider spilled into the roadway and died at the scene.

Authorities haven't shared any potential descriptive information about the vehicle involved as the investigation continues. The Florence County Coroner's Office has not yet identified the victim.
