FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony was held in Fort Wayne on Sunday.

Community members were invited to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for the event commemorating the 84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Over 2,400 Americans lost their lives in the attack, which led the United States to declare war on Japan, thus entering World War II.

The event included public speakers, patriotic music, and a candlelighting, ending with a rendition of ‘America the Beautiful’ as attendees joined hands in a circle.

Allen County Council of Veterans Organizations Vice Commander Alan Schuette says despite time and distance, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day still holds meaning here in 21Country.
