Peel police have charged four teenagers following an attempted robbery at Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. when four masked individuals, aged 14 to 17, entered the mall wearing all-black clothing and carrying hammers. Mall security and an on-site police officer quickly noticed the suspects and initiated a pursuit before any property could be stolen. One suspect was apprehended at the scene, while the other three fled in a stolen Honda CR-V. According to police, officers from the 11 Division Community Intervention and Response Team quickly located the vehicle. They boxed it in to prevent a chase and arrested the remaining three suspects after a brief foot pursuit. The entire operation took about three minutes from the time the suspects fled the mall. No injuries were reported during the incident, and no mall property was taken. In a video shared by police, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena praised the swift actions of mall security, stating, "Bing bang boom, everything wrapped up inside of three minutes. All four in custody." The four youths face multiple charges, including robbery, attempted robbery, possession of stolen property, and disguise with intent. Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their names cannot be released. Peel police also indicated that the group is linked to an earlier robbery attempt in York Region that occurred just hours before the incident at Erin Mills. The rapid response by law enforcement and security personnel highlights the effectiveness of community policing in preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
