Rhode Island has its share of legends, some for good and others for ill. It has also been the stage for some epic trials, including those that drew the national media to the courthouse door.
Here's a look at three trials that took place in Rhode Island but captured a wider audience.
Claus von Bulow
Leading the list are the trials of Danish-born socialite Claus Von Bulow, accused of trying to kill his heiress wife, Martha "Sunny" von Bulow, by injecting her with insulin.
Prosecutors said von Bulow twice tried to kill his wife by injecting her with insulin. In 1979, Sunny von Bulow fell into a coma, from which she recovered. A year later, she again fell into an unresponsive state. This time, her doctors said her condition was permanent.
Von Bulow was found guilty at trial but enlisted
