1BRONX, NY – New York City’s historic two-week stretch without a homicide ended Sunday night when a 38-year-old man was fatally shot in the Bronx.

Police responded just after 9 p.m. to a 911 call reporting gunfire inside 1744 Watson Avenue in the 43rd Precinct.

Officers found the victim, identified as Gregory Stewart of Barnes Avenue, with a gunshot wound to the head inside a stairwell.

Stewart was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

Person of interest in custody as investigation continues

Police said a person of interest was taken into custody at the scene, and detectives from the 43rd Precinct and Police Service Area 8 are continuing the investigation. No charges had been announced as of Monday morning.
