Last week’s announcement that Gary Neville's property company Relentless had ‘secured the long-term future’ of Kendals was heralded as a landmark moment for a landmark building. But amid all the hoopla and jargon there was one glaring omission.
There was no mention of what it means for House of Fraser - the department store that’s called Kendals home for the last 66 years. So lifestyle editor Dianne Bourne tried to find out and paid a visit to the one-time ‘Harrod’s of the North’. View 5 Images
She was greeted by empty counters, lacklustre Christmas decorations, broken escalators and posters for a Champagne bar that closed down several years ago. “A walk around the Kendals of today is sadly a far cry from its iconic yesteryear,” writes Dianne.
