Last winter, Hunter Brzustewicz and Yan Kuznetsov were often defence partners with the Wranglers. They’re now both in the big leagues.

The Calgary Flames ’ last defence call-up has been a major success story.

Hunter Brzustewicz, who was summoned Monday from the AHL’s Wranglers, is now aiming to repeat the feat.

For the past month, Brzustewicz has been watching as his blue-line buddy Yan Kuznetsov has established himself as a full-timer with the Flames.

The two were partners for a big chunk of last season with the Wranglers.

While they won’t be reunited on the same pairing, with Kuznetsov entrenched alongside MacKenzie Weegar, Brzustewicz should soon get an opportunity to prove he is also ready for an every-night role in the NHL. He will have to wait, however, as he is set to be a he
