SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - One person died as a result of a car crash and fire on East Edison Road on Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.
YCSO deputies and officers from the Sunnyside Police Department responded at around 4:35 a.m. after a nearby resident reported that a car crash resulted in the car catching on fire.
The car was fully engulfed in flames when law enforcement arrived.
One person was found inside the car after the fire was put out, who YCSO said died due to the crash.
"Initial investigation showed the vehicle was west on East Edison Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a guardrail at a canal bridge," YCSO said.
According to YCSO, the entire guardrail was "sheered from the bridge."
