FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- City Council’s decision to increase membership fees at the Gemini Center isn’t sitting well with some residents.

And Mayor Bill Schneider’s response to one such resident has also touched some nerves.

City Council approved the fee increases by a 5-2 vote Dec. 1.

Prior to the vote, homeowner Mike Conway -- a 43-year Fairview Park resident who two years ago volunteered to help the city pass a 1.5-mill property tax increase to pay for the $14 million natatorium renovation -- had a conversation with Schneider about the increase.

“We asked the mayor and (recreation) director in person and by email for the numbers -- 2025 membership numbers, 2026 projected membership numbers/visits and revenue increases after two major membership drives are launched,” Conway said.
