PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The health department is investigating a tuberculosis case involving a Pitt County student.
The department was notified of the Farmville Middle School case today, according to Pitt County Health Director Wes Gray.
Pitt County Schools says it has sent a joint letter to all guardians of Farmville Middle School students about the case.
According to a news release, public health officials, school nurses, and school staff are working together to identify possible exposures.
Health officials say free tuberculosis tests will be administered to students who may have been exposed, along with free treatment for positive tests, preventing future tuberculosis.
The department says the majority of staff and students will not require any testing or treatment.
