GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - On Sunday, a more uncommon visitor to the Coast was spotted in the Gulfport Lake.
Videos submitted by fisherman Ross Maxwell show what’s confirmed by IMMS as a manatee making his rounds through the area.
While the sighting of a manatee isn’t a regular occurrence, they’re typically more commonly seen in Mississippi during warmer months due to water temperatures.
One was sighted exactly one year earlier in the same area, with IMMS director Moby Solangi explaining it was attracted to the warmer water effluent from the nearby power plant.
Boaters in the area are asked to slow down in order to keep from injuring the manatee.
