Edmontonians taking transit can now pay with a credit or debit card or their digital wallet, in addition to using the existing Arc card system.

The expansion of payment was showcased on Monday at the Davies Transit Centre by city officials.

“It's here, finally," said Carrie Hotton-MacDonald, branch manager with the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS).

“We've already been breaking ridership records in Edmonton, and I'm sure this is going to help us go even farther. Making fare payment even easier is going to help more people to choose transit.”

In the last five years, transit ridership has steadily increased, according to city data. Numbers for the month of October saw about three million riders in 2020. Ridership peaked in October 2024 at 6.4 million riders then dropped back during the same
