LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Fayette County Board of Education voted on Monday to accept the recommendation of the Audit Committee to hire Weaver and Tidwell, a nationally ranked accounting firm, to conduct a comprehensive external operational and financial review, according to a news release.

The district said in the release that this is a “necessary next step to strengthen public trust.”

The review will follow parameters set by a committee of local financial experts. No district staff or board members participated in that process.

On Tuesday, June 10, Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball, R-Ky., launched a special examination of FCPS into how the district is using its funds, following the district’s attempt to raise its occupational tax rate.
