HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Department is investigating an attempted murder against a police officer following an incident on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, at about 12:20 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance on Kuhio Ave.

Officers encountered a 25-year-old man who was armed, experiencing a mental health crisis, and was inside a unit with family members.

During the incident, the suspect stabbed an HPD officer, causing injuries. The man also injured himself.

The officer later transported himself to the hospital in good condition. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation.

An attempted murder investigation has been initiated and remains ongoing.
